Gillian Martin

I qualified as a physiotherapist with an MSc in Rehabilitation Science in 2005. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

I have worked as a Musculoskeletal Specialist for the NHS, Ministry of Defence and in private practice. In my time with the NHS, I worked as the Rheumatology Specialist in a large district hospital, providing excellent experience in the treatment of many inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and ankylosing spondylitis. Working for the Ministry of Defence involved treating soldiers for a large variety of conditions in an elite athlete population. I also have experience working for the internationally-renowned Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI): I am a fully-certified APPI Matwork Pilates Instructor and have also completed the APPI Pilates Equipment Certification series.

Other post-graduate courses include further training in manual therapy, biomechanics, sports massage and acupuncture. I also completed my Masters in Neuromusculoskeletal Healthcare with distinction. I am a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, using acupuncture in the treatment of pain and muscle tension.

I take a holistic approach to physiotherapy, examining how the body works as a whole to determine the root cause of a problem and inform her treatments. I bring together my manual therapy skills with my interest in motor control to provide individualised treatments. Since returning to work following maternity leave, I have also taken a special interest in ante- and post-natal physiotherapy.

Outside of work, I am a keen runner. I have completed a number of half marathons and mountain adventure races, and in the last few years have taken up triathlons. I also enjoy skiing and less energetically walking my black Labrador!
