What is Pilates?

Pilates is a conditioning exercise programme that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine. Pilates focuses on building your body's core strength and improving your posture. This is done through a series of low impact strengthening, stretching and conditioning exercises which work the body as a whole.

Who is Pilates for?

Pilates suits all ages and fitness levels, including those with back or neck pain, poor postures, neurological conditions, sports injuries, arthritis and before, during and after pregnancy. Whatever your experience, small class numbers ensure that different levels can be catered for. Your specific needs will be identified and discussed at your initial assessment; it may be recommended that you start with one-to-one sessions.

Whether you have recently injured yourself, have a longstanding condition or just want a different form of exercise, Pilates taught by a Physiotherapist adds an extra dimension. Your Physiotherapist's experience in treating a variety of conditions gives you reassurance that your specific problem will be taken into consideration. In a one-to-one setting, hands-on Physiotherapy can be combined with your individually prescribed exercises to provide an all-round package of care.
